Emerson Essay

The main idea of "On Self-Reliance" by Emerson is to let us know that we should do what we believe is right for us and we shouldn't worry about what others might say or think of us.

Emerson tells us that we should look for the answers within us and not others. Emerson's tone supports the main idea because he expresses passion for life and self-reliance. "On Self-Reliance" tone gets the readers attention and persuades the reader.

The diction supports Emerson's essay because it persuades the reader to trust himself/herself, "Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string." We should detect our great ideas, trust yourself and believe yourself, "A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within, more than the luster of the firmament of bards and sages."

I agree with Emerson on relying on myself. I use Emerson's idea everyday by trying to trust myself and look for the answers within myself. Rely on yourself and believe in yourself.
